Description

Langaliki Langaliki (c. 1936 – 2016) was born in the bush near Amata to a Yankunytjatjara mother from Makiri, southwest of
Kaltjiti, and a Pitjantjatjara father from Palatu. As a child, she
moved to Ernabella, where she attended the mission school and
later worked in the kitchen and craft room, learning weaving and
sewing. After marrying, Langaliki worked on pastoral stations,
including Kenmore Park, before beginning to paint in 2002.
Aliwanyu wanyu, 2011, depicts a place near Watinuma where a blind Wanampi (watersnake) lives at a waterhole. Two dingoes hunt around the site, in Country also inhabited by kangaroo, emu and rabbits. Langaliki brings these animals, the waterhole
and the ancestral presence of the Wanampi together within a single field, presenting Country as a place where everyday life and Tjukurpa coexist.
